Meanwhile, in Lafayette...

Just because you're a small city that is so tranquil you sometimes go a year forgetting to have a murder doesn't mean you can't have plenty of other weirdness. For instance, to give this story a suitably holiday-themed headline:
I had never before heard of the Daisy Red Ryder school of parenting...

So, when are we going to have a conversation about reproduction control? Think of the children!

Next up:

"Nice BB gun. I'll take it."

"All right, sir; I need your driver's license and you'll need to fill out this 4473, and I'll call it in to the BATFE. And if you're a parent, there is a 48-hour waiting period. Oh, and a trigger lock is mandatory, too."

*pause*

"Hmm, I guess he didn't want it that badly after all."

When I took the hunter education class, they said the state of Florida considers a bb gun to be a firearm. The reason was a kid had a bb ricochet straight back... caught him in the heart and killed him.

Seems like a call for Terry Tate, Parenting Linebacker. I imagine him breaking through the wall, smashing the Daisy across the idiots head and then wandering back out, with "Get your life together, dumbass" tossed back over his shoulder.

Just as effective as the courts, cheaper, and think of the TV revenue. Solve the debt problem.

Jebus.

The kids are supposed to be the ones shooting each others' eyes out.

Some folks take decades to grow up, if ever.

in NJ we have to do the same state paperwork for a bb gun as for a 308
no fed paperwork and no nics check. but still stupid.

Anonymous at 12:39 - no fed paperwork. No NICS check.

Come again? BATFE Form 4473. That's the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. FEDERAL

No NICS check? Per pg 2 of the FBI NICS Federal Firearms Licensee Manual, "The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is required to deny the transfer of a firearm to any individual who is found to be prohibited under state law, i.i., under the law of the purchaser's state of residence and/or the law of the state where the transfer occurs." Pg 3 says that an NICS check is not required if a transferee presents a valid Permit to Carry. Only some of the states that issue permits allow those permit holders to bypass the NICS background check. New Jersey is not one of them.

So, you're either woefully ignorant, an idiot, or a troll. Or some combination of all three.

Steve,

You best check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Anon 12:39 is on your side; they were pointing out the inanities of the NJ law regarding BB guns, which are treated as firearms by state law in NJ as regards to purchasing...

Exactly.

The NJ legislature also considers muzzleloading muskets to be firearms in NJ, even though everyone outside the Boston-Washington corridor can mail order them.

I thought live fire bb gun fights were a junior high phenomenon. Anyone outside the 12-14 age range should know better. I guess a twenty-eight year old who needs to be told by a judge to get his GED may have a level of social development that matches his educational accomplishments.

The reporter claims that the father will serve no prison time but has already served 256 days of incarceration. Pretrial detention and post-trial detention are both detention.

Tippecanoe county went for Obama in 2008.

Need I say more?

I often question why I'm still here, but then again, I'm out in the boonies with bovines, corn, and cervids, so I'm mostly insulated from the stupidity.
