I'm not sure if "dystopian" is the right word...

...but if it is, Bruce Sterling is out of a job.

It seems that tech support for your electric stapler is not the only thing that has been outsourced to India in the last few years.

Every now and then we get treated to the most bizarre reminders that we're living in the future.

I wonder if the little buggers will come with a built in taste for curry.

It was about six or seven years ago that a multi-millionaire friend of mine with an I.Q. of 165 decided his gift to the world would be his genes. He planned to hire 1,000 surrogates in India (only $10M he said) and raise the I.Q. of the locals.

He said I could contribute too. Just supply the green stuff and the white stuff and he'd take care of the details.

That was before he lost nearly all his money in his start-ups that went belly-up.

He did get a city built in India he named after his hometown in The States before he ran out of money.

And yet I *still* don't have my flying car, or neural link to my rifle scope. What sort of two-bit future is this where you can rent a womb with a view, but the best bet for reaching out and touching something is still a gas-filled over-glorified example of an equation that's been around for more than 100 years?

Stingray, I was going to comment, but yours is what I was thinking and in so much better terms!

And I just now took the allen wrench out of the sight on my new M4 so I can go out and do a 50-yard zero...

Nine months of pregnancy and a painful week, versus fifteen years of going to work at the sweatshop.

Deal!
